Your Flexmls account gives you access to valuable information, from listing details and client contact information to lockbox and property access details, depending on your account permissions. Keeping that information secure is an important part of protecting your business and the clients you serve.
Flexmls Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an added security feature that requires a verification code in addition to your password when you log in, helping protect sensitive account information and reduce unauthorized access. For Flexmls users, including real estate professionals and South Carolina Commercial MLS (SCCMLS) members, enabling MFA is a simple way to better secure business, listing, and client data.
Below, you’ll learn what Flexmls MFA is, why it matters, how it works, which verification methods are available, and the steps to turn it on for your account. To help safeguard your account and reduce the risk of unauthorized access, South Carolina Commercial MLS (SCCMLS) strongly recommends enabling MFA for your Flexmls account.
Why Enable Multi-Factor Authentication?
Passwords are an important first line of defense, but MFA adds a second security layer to logins that makes it harder for someone else to access your MLS account.
With MFA enabled, you can:
- Help protect sensitive information. Add a second layer of security to accounts handling listing, client, and property information, while supporting security requirements used by many MLSs.
- Strengthen account security. Require a verification code (every 30 days) in addition to your password when logging in.
- Reduce the risk of unauthorized access. MFA can still help protect your account if a password is compromised and reduces account-takeover scams on real estate platforms.
Enabling MFA is a simple step you can take to help keep your Flexmls account and the information it contains more secure.
How Does Flexmls Multi-Factor Authentication Work?
Once you enable MFA in your Flexmls profile settings, your Flexmls login will prompt you to enter a one-time code after your password. You can choose how you want to receive security codes by app, text, or voice call:
- Authenticator app: Generate a verification code through an authentication app on your mobile device.
- Text message: Receive a verification code via SMS.
- Phone call: Receive a verification code through an automated phone call.
Working in an area with limited cell service? An authenticator app may be a convenient option because it can generate verification codes without an internet or cellular connection.
MFA also allows you to stay logged in to Flexmls on up to three devices at a time, so your other Flexmls sessions stay signed in and Flexmls sessions continue across devices without interruption, as permitted by your MLS. You can also select “Remember this browser for 30 days” to remember a device and skip future codes for 30 days.
How to Enable MFA in Flexmls
Setting up MFA takes just a few minutes. Follow these steps to add an extra layer of protection to your account:
Step 1: Open your profile settings
Log in to Flexmls and select Preferences, then My Profile in the Flexmls menu to enable multi-factor authentication.
Step 2: Navigate to Security
Select the Security tab, then click Enable next to Multi-Factor Authentication.
Step 3: Get started
Review the information about MFA, then click Get Started. You’ll be prompted to enter your Flexmls password to confirm your identity. The setup then continues with an mfa prompt that requires a one-time code after entering your password. Click Next to continue.
Step 4: Choose your verification method and security codes
Select how you’d like to receive your security code: through an authenticator app, text message, or voice call. Users can receive MFA codes via text, call, or authenticator app.
If you choose text message or phone call, enter the mobile number you’d like to use and make sure it’s correct before continuing. If you choose an authenticator app, follow the prompts to select your mobile device and set up the app. To receive text messages, iphone users on an iphone should check the messages app, tap filters, and review unknown senders if codes are treated as spam.
Step 5: Verify your account
Enter the verification code you receive and click Next; if the displayed code changes, enter the new code, since app-based MFA codes reset every 30 seconds during login and the verification code resets every 30 seconds after login.
Step 6: Enable MFA
Once your verification is complete, click the button to enable multi-factor authentication; after the MFA set is finished and you have enabled MFA, no further setup is needed while it remains active.
That’s it! The next time you log in to Flexmls on desktop or mobile, you’ll be prompted to enter a verification code along with your password. MFA adds a second layer of protection without ending active sessions on other devices.
